more signage!

my family owns Harper's Nursery, a family business for 50+ years (if you live in PHX or visit here- you have to stop by the nursery, it's the cutest!). my father in law thought it might be a good idea to make some signs for the nursery. here are some custom ones we made.

 (bloom) in yellow.
(coffee. garden. coffee. does a good morning need anything else?) in green.

both of these signs are smaller (i don't have exact dimensions on me now, but i will get them for you if you are interested). and the price is a smoking $40!

hope you are having a wonderful wednesday!

Jewelry Box Makeover

Hi Friends,

I'm currently in the midst of many projects! Great but also time consuming (which I usually don't have much free time on my hands) so it does take me a bit longer to complete one.

But I did finish one! Yay!

My lovely grandparents gave me this jewelry box a long LONG time ago. It match my room when I lived with my parents so it never bothered me too much. But since I have been married and don't have any ounce of these colors in my house, it was time to change it.

Four years later, I finally changed it!

Basically, I kept this cute shabby knobs. Sprayed painted it and added some extra love onto it. It took me 2 days to complete this (mostly due to drying time). But I absolutely love it and can't wait to add my jewelry in it.

I took Christa's advice a bit ago about her Jewelry Transformation, "If you see it, you will wear it." I decided to organize all my jewelry- it turns out, that I had too much and donating a plastic full to Goodwill. :)

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

-Ashley

UPDATE: Dining room chairs are in process and they are about half way done! I am deciding if I should add a little flare to the cushions like these cute anthro chairs below. You can't really see the writing on the chair, but that is what I was thinking of doing, what do you think?

Pinterest=Inspiring!

Hi Friends,

So... Sorry it has been a little while since our last blog post! I have been super busy and have started many new adventures this last month!

Starting my sewing adventure... Mostly, learning as go, but it has been quite the job! I didn't know it required soo much time. But it is very worth it as soon as I start making fun little things for London. :)

I also started my couponing adventure (which i have been blogging about). Also, a learning as I go type of thing but I am determined to SAVE money!

Also, my obsession with pinterest! Basically, it is a website to save all your DIY projects, furniture, recipes, home decor, photography, and the list goes on. You can follow people to see what they "pin" and you can "repin" onto your board. It is very fun! Especially for those of you who LOVE to be creative!

Here are a few inspirational pictures of the overall look I am going for the makeover (all saved on my pinterest boards).

Take a look:

Love the hints of blue, the dark table with the white chairs.

Now for the curtains... So hard to choose what style I will be going with...

mix and match curtains

                                                             printed curtain                           one-color curtain

As you can see, I still have a few final decisions to make (and open to your suggestions!) But, I am being inspired constantly with pinterest! If you want to join, you must have an invite. Please leave your email address and we will invite you over!

If You See It ... You'll Wear It!

Hello 503 Couture Friends!

Lately, I've have realized that I have all this great jewelry, but I am only wearing the same bits and pieces and ignoring the rest!  In girl world this is a big NO-NO!  In a mission to end this vicious cycle I realized that if I 'saw' my jewelry collection I was more likely to wear a larger variety of it.  Guess what?? It worked!  Here are a few of my latest designs .... hopefully, it will give some you some ideas on how to use those extra frames you have laying around :)

I found this great frame and bought the fabric as well as the push pins with pearl heads to add a little bling! I leaned it against the wall and not only do I have some great room decor, but a great way to see all my necklaces!

Here is another one I did for my earrings.  I found this frame at a thrift store for $4 dollars!  Cleaned it up a bit and of course applied some friendly sandpaper and hello!  I just love the lace and how pretty it turned out.  Using lace made it perfect for hanging my earrings with all the holes already there!  Love this piece and the bright green is just fun!

This project is easy, inexpensive and totally fun to create!  You can't go wrong! Just grab an old frame, clean it up, sand it down, add fabric and you have a beautiful way to display all your jewelry!  If you see it you will wear it ... take it from me!

Till Next Time,

Christa

Couponing 101: Getting Started.

It has begun! I have joined the band wagon and starting this whole couponing adventure! I am sure most of you have seen previews or seen the show "Extreme Couponing," watching people buying hundreds and hundreds worth of groceries and saving like 90% on their bill! Well, I have definitely been inspired to SAVE MONEY- and I thought some of you might want join in! So, I will be starting Couponing Series for me to help you (or you to help me... HA! Since I am sooo new this) on this adventure.

I recently just attending an "Extreme Couponing Class" this past week. I just LOVED what was taught there. In fact, I LOVED it so much that I have 3 Newspapers coming to my house weekly (yes, that is THREE papers... oh goodness, what did I get myself into).

Here is the basis of what I learned:

1. Get Sunday's Newspaper with all the ads and coupons inside (basically you are looking for the Smart Source(SS) Ad, Proctor & Gamble (P&G), anything additional you like). Of course, you can choose not to get the paper but most of the manufacturer's coupons come inside of it.

2. Start a file system labeling your SS; P&G; Red Plum (comes through the mail) with the "Sunday's date." File them away.
**3. Here is the key... Every item in the grocery/pharmacy like stores goes through a 10-12 week 'rock bottom low' prices. When your item is at 'rock bottom low,' use the manufacturer's coupon to get the ultimate SAVINGS! (Buying multiple paper's means that you can get two, three, four, ten, etc. of an item... hence how people can become extreme.)

**Stock up on an item to last the 10-12 week cycle until the item hits the rock bottom price again, then stock up again. I use Grocery Smarts to help me find the best deals weekly.

Let the Savings begin and please share your Savings with me!

My London turned 1!

September 3, marked the day my little London came into the world. Motherhood has been one great adventure to be on... and it helps that I get this little cutie everyday.

Yes, I gave London her first haircut that day! She was super good... quite curious actually!

We wanted to have a small party for her. My sister was the master craftsman and created all the paper decor (the flags, the chains, etc.). I wanted to keep with a more girlie theme so she used mostly pinks and purple papers. She did great huh?
(PS. I am currently in the midst of a kitchen makeover! So, stayed tuned for updates!)

We added a this doily table runner I posted this in my last blog which you can Click here  to view it. I also had cute photo's captured by Maple Hill Photography framed and displayed throughout the party.

My friends, Adam & Jinnalee, helped me out so much by making these gluten-free carrot cupcakes. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect (and I am not just saying cause I have to) but those carrot cupcakes were AMAZING! The cupcakes had a banner that said "Happy Birthday!"

Happy 1st Birthday my London Jayde. You have been such a joy to my life.

Just remember, you don't have to go overboard to have a cute birthday party for your little one. Simplicity & Delegation come in handy! Just have fun and laugh, that is all you will remember later!

Old Doily's into a Chic Table Runner

Joeley Harper, my sister, gave me these old Doily's she bought at a her Arizona estate sale shopping spree. They were pretty nasty but she saw potential in them.

She said make them into a table runner and let it be your first sewing project! (Just recently, I took my a sewing lesson and learned the basics of my machine.YAY! It only took me 8 months to learn. HA!)

I had to wash these doily's first- Iron them- Starting sewing! I did have a few mistakes during sewing, but needless to say, I finished it within an hour!

Look at how cute it turned out. Of course I had to use this Chic Doily Table Runner as part of my party decor for my little girl's first Birthday!

Summer Living!

Hello Everyone!

I'm the third and final sister of this fabulous trio!  My name is Christa!  You've already met the amazingly talented Joeley and Ashley and now it's my turn to share with you what I've been working on!  Part of 503 Couture's vision is to repurpose items and spaces that need a serious face lift.  My parents back patio has been screaming for a makeover for quite some time. So, with my recent move back to the Northwest I jumped right into making a relaxing little getaway for the two of them!  I hope you love it as much as I enjoyed creating it!  But, please forgive me as I do not have any 'before' photos ... oops! I got so excited I just jumped right in and pulled out the camera only after the makeover was complete!  Sorry!

I'm convinced the world looks better with a lot of candles lit! Ok, so where do I start ... there is so much to talk about! Let's start with my favorite little obsession at the moment ... MASON JARS!  I am officially IN LOVE with blue Mason Jars that have the wire handles.  I use them for flowers vases and candle holders, but of course the options are endless!  Here's a few of my favorites :)

As any wanna-be designer knows :) good design is always in the details!  When creating an outdoor space nothing can be more frustrating than a beautiful linen that is always getting blown off the table by gusts of wind ... well, problem solved!

These little beauties I found on my annual road trip to the Mid-West.  On this trip I always include lots of stops at all the local antique shops!  Amazing selection and killer prices!  With these forks hanging on the ends of my tablecloths no wind is moving my linens! So cute!

As we all know if you have an outdoor space you need chairs ... a friend of mine was getting rid of her 4 dining chairs and I gladly took them off her hands!  With some aqua base paint and some cream crackle paint (a new finish I'm playing with) these boring medium brown chairs turned into a fun shabby chic addition to this great outdoor space!

By the way ... money saver idea!  All the pillows you see in these pictures were made from old sheets I used in my college dorm room!  Reuse & repurposing is so much fun!

As you can tell I am not afraid to put my weight into it!  I love a good, well-worn chair!

This is the crackle paint finish!  Such a fun idea.  This paint is a little tricky to work with, but use thinner coats and don't be in a hurry ... give this paint some room to breath and she'll love you for it!  What's great about this finish is without you having to 'create' this look the paint does it for you!  What will they think of next?

I think we would all agree that every outdoor space needs great lighting!  As I said before, you can never go wrong with candles ... My sister Lauri gave me this piece before she moved to Ireland.  Thanks Lauri!

Who says a garbage can has to be boring?? I repurposed this old planting pot I had and decided it would be the perfect trash collector :)

Last but certainly not least!  I found old windows around my parents house that I knew had to be put on display!  This amazing blue was too perfect to change and I love it just leaning against the house ... perfection.

So, word to all the wanna-be designers (like me) out there!  You don't have to have a lot of money to create a great space.  Reuse, repurpose, and recreate the space you want! The possibilities are endless!

Till next time ...

Hutch Repurposed!

This hutch was quite the project for me! My hardest problem... finding a paint color! Once I decided on "Lagoon" from Martha Stewart, the project was ready to get started!

Here is what this hutch looked like before....

And... After Many hours... Here is the Beautiful Hutch!

I switched out the door knobs with these birdie knobs from Antropologie.

These were the original drawer handles that I refinished.
